History

The History of the corporate franchise known as Kentucky Fried
Chicken began in the early 1930s down in Corbin Kentucky. This
multimillion dollar company started with a man you may all know
as Colonel Harland Sanders. Back in the 1930s Mr. Sanders owned
a self run restaurant at a local gas bar known as Sanders Court and
Cafe where he sold wholesome food such as chicken, sandwiches,
coleslaw and drinks. Sanders was always experimenting with the
food he sold; trying to make it taste better or look more appealing.
One of the key experiments Sanders was working on was how to
make his fried chicken taste better than any chicken he had ever
tasted before. Years went by and Mr. Sanders eventually figured
out the correct tasting spices that would go into his recipe.
However, something still wasn't right with the chicken. In the late
1930s Sanders bought a pressure cooker, allowing him to cook
chicken at different pressures and temperatures. Several tests,
years, and eleven spices later, the Original Recipe Chicken was
born.

Years past and with thought of showing his chicken to the rest of
America, Sanders took off in 1952 and began his trek across the
United States, sharing his beloved chicken recipe. This trek made
the chicken famous amongst the rest of the United States resulting
in the company being sold to John Y Brown Jr for two million
dollars in 1964, yet still leaving Sanders as the Kentucky Fried
Chicken spokes person.

With a new invenstor and owner of the KFC franchise, the
company began to quickly expand and take over America.
However the company got immense resulting in KFC getting put up
on the New York stock exchange in January 1969 and being
bought in 1971 by Heublein Incorporated. After Heublein acquired
Kentucky Fried Chicken, the franchise expanded to over 3500
stores rapidly. In 1982 KFC was bought by RJR Nabisco
Incorporated and then four years later in 1986 was purchased by
PepsiCo Incorporated for a final selling price of 840 million dollars.
In 1997 PepsiCo announced that KFC and other restaurants owned
by PepsiCo (A&W) would be making a transition into another
PepsiCo owned company known as Tricon Global Restaurant
Corporation and later changed it name to Yum! Brands,
Incorporated.

Finally if we look back through all the transitions KFC has made,
we see that in the beginning it all started with a 65 year old man,
 and one chicken
